Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers!)

Category:

Denomination/Affiliation

Are you an independent church, or are you affiliated with an established denomination?

Q. Are you an independent church, or are you affiliated with an established denomination?
A.
We are affiliated with a denomination known as the Assemblies of God...but don't let a denominational tag keep you from coming!  We are a bible-believing, bible-teaching church trying to model ourselves after the New Testament church in Acts chapter 2 (for more of our doctrinal beliefs, please click here.)  We are part of the Assemblies of God because we believe strongly in the need for the type of accountability that can only be found in partnering with a Bible-believing denomination.  Although we are not your 'typical' Assemblies of God church, our pastor is an ordained A/G minister, who adheres to the Assemblies of God 16 Fundamentals of Faith, and is in good standing with the North Carolina District Assemblies of God.

Life Groups

Why don't you have a mid-week service or Bible study?

Q. Why don't you have a mid-week service or Bible study?
A.
We believe that ministry best occurs in community groups, outside of the church building.  As a result, we have developed Life Groups (which meet in various homes and coffee shops around town) to take the place of a mid-week church service or Bible study.  These groups provide a safe place to grow in your spiritual journey (regardless of your current spiritual condition), to study scripture and to apply its truths to your life.  For more information concerning Life Groups, please click here.

Nursery/Children's Ministry

Do you have any ministries available for my children?

Q. Do you have any ministries available for my children?
A.
We have a fully staffed nursery and children's church ministry for children up to 10 years old.  KidZone is a fabulous ministry that connects kids with the God of Scripture in fun and meaningful ways.  Be sure to check out the kidZone portion of our website for more information.

Sundays

As a visitor in your church, what, if anything, should I give in the offering?
How should I dress when I come to your church?
I am not yet a Christian, is it okay if I attend your services?
Why don't you have your own church building? Will you have one soon?

Q. As a visitor in your church, what, if anything, should I give in the offering?
A.
If you are visiting with us, you are under no obligation to participate in our offerings.  However, we do encourage our regular attenders to faithfully tithe and give their offerings as taught in Scripture.  We believe we cannot out-give God, and it is our pleasure to give back to Him a portion of what He has freely given to us.  If you would like to give in our offering, please feel free to do so.

Q. How should I dress when I come to your church?
A.

The members of our church dress to their choosing, which is most often casual attire.   We are far more concerned with connecting you to God, than we are in how you dress.  All we ask is that you bring an open mind and a willing heart to our times of worship.

Q. I am not yet a Christian, is it okay if I attend your services?
A. Absolutely!  We invite anyone who is a spiritual seeker of truth to come and explore the claims of Christ in a safe and welcoming environment.

Q. Why don't you have your own church building? Will you have one soon?
A.
We are a new and growing church, that has made the decision to put our money into ministry and outreach instead of into a mortgage while in this early stage of ministry.  Although it may be more convenient to have our own building, we enjoy meeting in the marketplace, which allows us to better interact with our community.  There are no concrete plans to occupy our own building at this time, but it is something we would like to do in the future.

Worship

Are you a Charismatic church?
What is your church's worship style?

Q. Are you a Charismatic church?
A.
We like to consider ourselves 'Charismatics with seatbelts."  Though we believe in the power and the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we also believe in order.  As a result we encourage our people to freely worship the Lord with all their hearts in a way that does not infringe on the rights of others who might not share their 'style' or 'freedom' in worship.

Q. What is your church's worship style?
A.
Worship at Destination Church is unique in comparison to many churches in our area.  We are a very passionate group of people who enjoy worshipping God with all of our hearts.  As a result, our worship is exciting, intimate, God-focused and Spirit-led.  Our constant desire is to experience the presence and the power of God in our services, and it is often during worship where this is most evident.
